UND Aviation Department Student Organizations

Alpha Eta Rho

  • Alpha Eta Rho

    • Faculty Advisor: John Bridewell

    • AHP is an international aviation fraternity with over sixty chapters nationwide. Its goals are: to further the cause of aviation in all its branches, to instill in the public mind a confidence in aviation, to promote contacts between the members and those engaged in the aviation profession, and to promote a close affiliation among students for the purpose of education and research. The Greek letter AHP means "air". In existence since the 1920's, AHP is recognized throughout the aviation community. The UND Delta Chapter hosts the Annual Parents Weekend, constructs a Homecoming float, and sponsors the Flying Team. All aerospace students and faculty at UND are eligible to join.


American Association of Airport Executives

  • American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE)

    • Faculty Advisor: Kim Kenville

    • Geared toward students interested in a career in airport management, the club's activities include airport tours and attending the national AAAE convention. Originally founded in 1928 to represent airport management, AAAE established a student chapter program for universities in order to promote professionalism and instill professional attitudes in students who are studying aviation-related development, administration and operations. UND's chapter is the largest college or university chapter in the nation and welcomes students of all majors.


Army Aviation Association of America

    • The UND Chapter of the national Army Aviation Association is open to anyone with an interest in U.S. Army aviation. Emphasis is on exploring rotary wing flight and experiencing good fellowship. Each member receives the AAAA monthly publication "Army Aviation" magazine which keeps members abreast of the latest advances in Army aviation.


  • Aviation Safety Association (ASA)

    • Faculty Advisor: Kenn Foltz

    • ASA promotes safety awareness throughout the aviation industry. The organization brings students together with professionals in the aviation industry for candid discussions on aviation and related matters to become further educated about the concerns in the professional community. ASA regularly sponsors aviation safety seminars on campus. ASA is open to students of all disciplines.


Experimental Aviation Association

  • Experimental Aviation Association (EAA)

    • Faculty Advisor: Pete Schumacher

    • The purpose of the EAA is to bring together students and members of the community interested in recreational aviation, fly-ins, trips, Oshkosh, building airplanes, the EAA Young Eagles Program, and having fun with flying.


UND Flying Team

    • Faculty Advisor: Mark Johnson

    • The Flying Team at UND is a member of the National Intercollegiate Flying Association and takes an active part in both regional and national flying competitions. The team provides members with a competitive environment. The team is sponsored by Alpha Eta Rho.


International Pilot's Association (IPA)

    • Faculty Advisor: Pete Schumacher

    • The purpose of the International Pilot's Association is to help ease the transition of international students into the U.S. aviation community. While providing a network of contacts and moral support, the association actively collects facts regarding immigration and visa issues, as well as information on both U.S. and international internships and sponsorships. The group is open to all UND students and flight instructors regardless of citizenship.


Military Aviation Organization

    • Faculty Advisor: Rocky Graziano

    • Founded in 1997, MAO was established for students in the university who have an interest in military aviation. The organization sponsors guest speakers, travels to bases within all branches of the military, and keeps a current library of information and recruiting materials.


Organization of Minority Aviation Professionals

  • Organization of Minority Aviation Professionals

    • Faculty Advisor: John Bridewell

    • Founded in 1998, OMAP was established to foster the growth and development of minority aviation students. The organization plans to accomplish this through mentoring programs, helping students with financing, and providing encouragement and motivation by creating role model relationships within the aviation industry. OMAP welcomes all UND students, graduates, and faculty as well as people interested in helping the organization.


Student Air Traffic Control Association

  • Student Air Traffic Control Association (SATCA)

    • Faculty Advisor: Paul Drechsel/Craig Carlson

    • The group seeks to further aviation safety, awareness and education through air traffic control forums and meetings. It also promotes harmony amongst all aviation professionals by maintaining an open dialog of communication (offering answers and suggestions to ensure information is relayed through proper channels).


Student Aviation Advisory Council

  • Student Aviation Advisory Council (SAAC)

    • Faculty Advisor: Dean Bruce Smith

    • This nine-member council acts as a line of communication between the administration and the student body. Through regular meetings, SAAC is able to express ideas and concerns of the students directly to the Dean and his staff. The council is a key player in the implementation of new student-oriented programs. The Mentor and Ambassador programs, as well as the Graduate Catalog, were presented to the administration through SAAC. Appointments to the council are through an application and interview process.


Student Aviation Management Association

    • Associated with the American Association of Airport Executives, SAMA has members from all of the aviation-related majors. They promote professionalism in the aviation industry at the college level. The group sponsors an annual conference featuring national speakers and also travels to a major aviation-based city each year.


UND Aerospace RC

    • UND Aerospace R/C is a student-run organization dedicated to he advancement of the arts, sciences and technology of aviation and aerospace. As such, the organization is involved in radio-conrolled aircraft design, construction and continued development while increasing cooperative interdisciplinary opportunities for motivated students of all disciplines at the University of North Dakota.


  • UND Helicopter Association

    • Faculty Advisor: Ernie Anderson

    • UNDHA was established to promote helicopter aviation at UND to all who are interested. Trough alumni and industry contacts, we give helicopter students and enthusiasts opportunities to further explore the rotor wing community. Students who wish to broaden their connections will be given opportunities nationwide to meet representatives from the industry's leading names.


Wilderness Pilots Association (WPA)

    • Founded in 1987, WPA was established for those students with a love for outdoors and for those who seek the challenge of conventional(tailwheel) airplanes, seaplanes and skiplanes. WPA members have a desire to explore the wilderness and fly bush planes in remote regions of the world.


Women in Aviation

  • Women in Aviation, International (WAI)

    • Faculty Advisor: Elizabeth Bjerke

    • Beginning in 1990, this organization was formally established in 1994 as a non-profit professional organization to encourage women to seek opportunities in aviation. WAI provides year-round resources to assist women in aviation and encourage students to consider aviation as a career. 1998 was the first year Women in Aviation, International had a chapter on the UND campus.
